Purolator is thrilled to once again be a recipient of the YVR Green Excellence Award presented by the Vancouver Airport Authority. The award recognizes Sea Island, B.C. businesses that demonstrate enthusiasm and innovation in green initiatives.

This year, Purolator was recognized in the Environmental Innovation category for our use of reusable skid wraps. This initiative not only reduces our environmental impact by minimizing waste, but it also has proved to be a cost-effective and time-saving alternative as well.

“One roll of disposable shrink wrap would only be enough to wrap five skids, so we’d have to buy lots of shrink wrap in order to cover everything,” said Nathan Close, District Manager, Richmond Hub and Vancouver Island, Purolator. “It also took longer to wrap the skids with disposable shrink wrap than with the reusable wrap, so it’s both an environmentally friendly and a resource-conscious initiative”.

Initially, Nathan got the idea for reusable wraps when he saw them at a local grocery store. “I saw that they had received their stock using these reusable wraps, so I took some photos and got the supplier information. I started thinking about how we could use them for our skids at Purolator,” he said. Thanks to this creativity, our use of reusable skid wraps has now expanded into Ontario and Alberta terminals.

Environmental sustainability is a key part of Purolator’s business strategy, and we continue to set ambitious goals to reduce our impact and deliver for our planet. Congratulations to the entire team at the Richmond Hub for all their hard work that continues to make Purolator more sustainable.
