Lithium batteries are used in many electronic devices such as cameras, cell phones, laptop computers, medical equipment and power tools.
When you ship lithium batteries, either alone, contained in or packaged with devices and equipment, you must meet shipping requirements for dangerous goods. Different rules apply depending on whether you are shipping by ground or by air.
Regardless of shipping method, it is important to package lithium batteries carefully:
-
Separate each battery from any metal object in the package to prevent short circuits.
-
Insulate battery terminals with a non-conductive material such as electrical tape or by placing each battery in a plastic bag.
-
Package batteries to prevent shifting during transport.
