Purolator has achieved Platinum certification under Excellence Canada’s new integrated Healthy Workplace® and Mental Health at Work Standard; the highest level of recognition Excellence Canada bestows. Purolator is the first delivery and logistics company to receive this recognition and the first organization recognized under the integrated standard.
The certification followed a rigorous external assessment of how Purolator builds a culture of psychological health and safety. It reflects four years of work by our employees, leaders, Well-being Champions, Mental Health First Aid Responders and partners across the organization to foster a workplace where people are welcome and supported.
“This recognition reflects the care, commitment and collaboration that employees and leaders across Purolator have brought to strengthening our people’s well-being,” said Cindy Bailey, Vice President and Corporate Sustainability Officer. “Through Purolator Health, we’ve built a strategy focused on physical, mental and social well-being and continued to evolve it through ongoing review and employee feedback. What makes this recognition especially meaningful is seeing that work translate into better support for our people and a meaningful difference in their health and well-being.”
Building a stronger culture of care
The journey began by asking employees what they needed and using their feedback to shape a more connected approach to workplace well-being. Since then, Purolator Health has expanded training, peer support and health promotion across the network, bringing resources closer to employees through workplace screenings, roadshows, virtual learning and local initiatives.
That work has included more than 45,000 hours of mental health training and training for all leaders. A national peer-support network now includes 200+ Mental Health First Aid Responders across more than 100 locations and more than 120 Wellbeing Champions across 70 locations.
“We began by listening to our employees and asking what support would make a meaningful difference in their day-to-day lives,” said Ashley Wood-Suszko, Senior Manager, Health and Wellbeing. “Their feedback continues to shape how we evolve our programs, equip our leaders and peers, and make psychological health and safety part of everyday conversations and actions.”
A milestone, not the finish line
Platinum certification recognizes the progress Purolator has made while reinforcing its commitment to keep improving. Purolator Health will continue to listen to employees, evolve its programs and lead healthy change across the organization.
The recognition reflects what can happen when people across an organization work together as One Team with purpose, commitment and collaboration. It is a shared achievement and an important step in building a workplace where everyone has the support they need to thrive.
