Purolator calls on Canadians to join the fight against hunger during Purolator Tackle Hunger Month

May 29, 2025

Today, we kicked off Purolator Tackle Hunger® Month —a time dedicated to raising awareness of food insecurity and collecting food and funds for those experiencing hunger. During the month of June, our employees, customers and partners come together to raise donations, hold Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaigns in communities across the country and organize other events in support of Canadian food banks. This year, we are also spotlighting the reality that one in three food bank users are children.

“The food bank system is stretched to its limits, so we’re committed to going the extra mile for Canadians in need this June,” said John Ferguson, President and CEO, Purolator. “During this time of year, donations to food banks drop, the shelves become depleted, and children lose access to the school nutrition programs they need. This makes it crucial that we come together to help those in our communities who are counting on us.”

Last year, Canadian food banks had more than two million visits in March 2024 — the highest number in history for the same month — with one third of food bank users being children, according to Food Banks Canada’s HungerCount 2024.

Just launched, our new Purolator Tackle Hunger Awareness Campaign will highlight the fact that one in three food bank visitors are children. Our series of videos showcases the everyday concerns of children, such as missing their bus, losing their soccer ball over a fence or having their building blocks knocked down, which end with a powerful reminder: “Being a kid is hard. Being a hungry kid is harder.” The campaign will air to Canadian football fans across the country during the next few months, complementing the work we do to raise donations for local food banks with the Canadian Football League (CFL) teams at our CFL Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drives.

How Canadians can join us in the fight against hunger:

  1. Make an online donation to Purolator Tackle Hunger here, in support of Food Banks Canada. In June, Purolator will match pound for pound, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000.
  2. Make a non-perishable food donation or cash donation at any Purolator Shipping Centre.  Individuals can find a store near them by using the Purolator Locator tool on purolator.com.
  3. Purchase a Bundl Box hamper online here. We have curated five variations of donation boxes at varying price points that are packed with essential foods, which we ship directly to provincial food banks across Canada.
  4. Check our social channels, @PurolatorInc, to find out if a Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaign is coming to your neighbourhood. If you receive a Red Bag, please consider filling it with non-perishable food items for your local food bank and leaving it on your porch on collection day.

Thank you to everyone who generously donates and helps us tackle hunger. Together, we can make a difference.
