The fuel surcharge is 13.00% effective April 7, 2008 - May 4, 2008.

The surcharge effective May 5, 2008 - June 1, 2008 will be 16.50% due to an increase in the average monthly price of unleaded gasoline and a change in Purolator’s Dynamic Fuel Surcharge Table (see below).

The surcharge will be updated the week of May 19, 2008.

Purolator’s fuel surcharge for courier services is set monthly based upon the average price of regular unleaded gas reported by MJ Ervin and Associates (a company that monitors fuel prices across Canada). The Dynamic Fuel Surcharge Table below illustrates the fuel surcharge to be applied to shipments based upon the average monthly pump price calculated by Purolator using the weekly prices reported by MJ Ervin and Associates.  Effective May 5, 2008, the fuel surcharge corresponding to the average monthly price of unleaded gasoline will change in 0.50% increments (versus 0.25% increments previously), making Purolator’s fuel surcharge more sensitive to changes in the average monthly price of unleaded gasoline (both up and down).

Changes to the fuel surcharge are effective the first Monday of each month and appear at www. purolator.com approximately two weeks prior to the effective date.

The fuel surcharge applies to all courier shipments tendered to Purolator regardless of destination or mode of transport and is applied to the sum of the base shipping rate, additional weight charges, rural charges and beyond point charges. Premium service surcharges, administrative surcharges and taxes are excluded from the calculation.

About Purolator’s Fuel Surcharge

Fuel represents a significant variable cost in the provision of transportation services. Employing a variable fuel surcharge allows Purolator to avoid frequent changes in its base shipping rates and allows the overall cost of shipping to vary (both up and down) with the market price of fuel. Although Purolator utilizes gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel in the provision of its services, Purolator’s fuel surcharge is automatically adjusted based on changes in the market price of unleaded gasoline in order to provide Purolator’s customers with an easy to understand basis for changes (both up and down) in Purolator’s fuel surcharge. In addition to automatic adjustments, Purolator’s fuel surcharge is subject to adjustment upon changes by Purolator to the surcharge trigger point ranges and associated percentages set out in the Dynamic Fuel Surcharge Table above.
