System improvements

Effective February 2, 2015

In our ongoing efforts to provide excellent shipping services to our customers we have corrected the following error messages and bugs in Purolator E-Ship® Server (ESS).

System Error Messages

  • When processing a Connect shipment with the Ship Via function, the incorrect error message no longer appears when 3rd Party account number and address information for shipments billed to a 3rd Party is not defined.
  • When processing a Connect shipment with the Ship Via function, providing a weight greater than the maximum 1lb for a Purolator Envelope no longer generates an incorrect error message.
  • When trying to connect to the Reporting Server, there is no longer an error message.
  • The occasional flashing of “FALSE” message on the screen no longer appears.

System Bug Fixes

  • Ship Via User Defined Priority with non-group shipments now selects the correct service.
  • Ship Via Group shipments sent 3rd Party or Collect are now applying user defined values to the shipment.
  • Tab Order Setup hot key has been changed for Windows XP and Windows 7 to CTRL+ALT+TAB.
  • Tab Order Save function now saves correctly.
  • Printing of the Track > Status screens no longer overlap.
  • The Charge (Rate) screen has been resized to allow all content to show properly.
  • Processing a Purolator Envelope with the Unit of Measure set to KGs no longer results in a failed shipment.
  • Shipment ID is no longer blank for shipments sent to “Hold” queue.
  • Reporting Server Service no longer fails when generating reports.
  • Navigation performance issues have been corrected.
  • Report Designer issues including formatting, data and operational issues have been corrected.
  • Various Graphical User Interface issues have been corrected.
  • The issue where the shipment billing option was randomly changing from Pre-paid to Collect has been corrected.
  • The issue where a laser report was printing on the thermal label printer has been corrected.

Effective February 24, 2014

In our ongoing efforts to better serve our customers we have applied the following system update and fixes to the Purolator E-Ship® Server (ESS).

System Update:

  • Residential Area: Residential Delivery has been renamed to Residential Area.

System Fixes:

  • Collect and 3rd Party are now available options when using the Ship Via function.
  • When using the Address Validate function, the customer inputted city will no longer automatically be replaced if the city name entered is valid for the postal code provided.
  • The option to view Proof of Delivery signature has been restored.
  • A US Signature Surcharge is no longer converted to a Domestic Signature Surcharge value in the Connect Manifest file.

System improvements

Effective October 7, 2013

You can now benefit from the following enhancements and updates to the Purolator E-Ship® Server (ESS) system:

  • Technology updates to Apache and PHP – The platform is now updated.
  • Enable Options without opening the Options window - When an Option has an associated preference defined, those preferences will automatically be applied to the shipment without entering the Options screen and clicking Done to choose the preference. The Option windows enhanced are:
    • Shipment – The following Options have been set with their shipper default values: Chain of Signature, Declared Value, Dangerous Good Classification, Dangerous Goods and Hold For Pickup
    • Dangerous Goods – Ability to add a list of Dangerous Goods to a shipment
  • Update Mechanism for Address Validation – ESS performs two separate address validations against two separate validation source data sets when shipping. The new update mechanism will ensure that the two validation data sources will be identical and current.
  • Autocomplete Updates – Updates to autocomplete functionality for the following fields: Customer Code, Company/Name, Postal Code/ZIP, Cost Center and Reference. The updates include enhancing the design and additional information on the drop downs to enable customers to accurately select stored data.
  • Additional system fixes:
    • Track Status can now display up to 500 PINs at a time
    • Track By PIN can now track up to 25 PINs at a time
    • Hot key for Add Package (ALT-A) is now enabled on hand scanners
    • Ship via Collect and 3rd Party shipments are no longer defaulting to Prepaid

Purolator Freight® is now fully integrated into ESS

Effective January 2013

We are pleased to announce that our Purolator Freight services are now fully integrated into Purolator E-Ship® Server (ESS). As a result, you can now enjoy the convenience of creating and managing your Purolator Courier® and Purolator Freight (LTL: less-than-truckload) shipments, using not only a single provider, but also one streamlined shipping system, ESS.

Effective October 12, 2012

In our ongoing efforts to provide superior online solutions, we’ve made some enhancements to Purolator E-Ship® Server (ESS) based on the feedback from our customers. You can now benefit from the following ESS system enhancements and fixes:

System enhancements

  • Commercial Invoice – The commercial invoice allows for more character and format variations on the phone number and currency fields.   
  • Dangerous Goods – The dangerous goods form is now available when using Purolator’s collect and third party billing options.
  • Outbound Return Service labels – for the number of return labels (outbound shipments) that can be created and printed has been increased from 10 to 100 for both modes: per piece and per shipment.   
  • Reprint option – This option is now available at the pre-ship status.  To prevent cancelling or voiding a shipment to create a new label, you can reprint a label when the shipment has been created but it hasn’t been sent to the manifest yet.
  • Error messages – These messages have been updated with more specific and detailed information so the issue can be resolved more quickly in both English and French platforms. 

System fixes

  • Special Handling and Declared Value Surcharges that default to On can now be over-ridden.
  • Voids will automatically close and upload on the creation and/or void date.
  • Hold For Pickup can now be applied automatically with customer preferences without entering the Options screen.
  • Shipment ID data now supersedes Customer Code data in the warehouse user interface screen.
  • Navigate back and forth from the ESS application to an external website.
  • Special characters are now restricted and if entered, an error message will be displayed to avoid potential data loss.
  • An ExpressCheque® destined for a P.O. Box address now prompts a mandatory phone number to be entered if the field is empty.
  • Return shipments made after processing an ExpressCheque will change back to default address.
  • Customer discounts will continue to be displayed even if the contract has expired.
  • Logging out of ESS during a LabelNow shipment will now void the shipment.
  • Purolator shipping services are now validated based on the address provided in the Warehouse screen so that only services available to that specific area are shown.
  • Shipments and/or piece weight set to Automatic Mode in the Connect Input file are now sent to the Hold Queue instead of being rejected.
  • Default payments set to Collect are now working properly when processing a shipment.
  • All names on the manifest drop-down list are in French when the language preference is set to French.
  • The Track Status filter is now displaying properly: Ship, Void, and Close.
  • Batch Tracking has been fixed.
  • Detailed Third Party manifest can now be printed properly.
  • Current day shipping is now available when the status of a manifest from a previous day is closed.
  • The Outbound Return Services are now using default values as defined in the MyProfile page.
  • Residential Signature Required is now displayed on the Options screen and is applying properly to Group Shipments.  
  • From Hold shipment information is no longer over ridden by user defaults.
  • Returns Management payment type no longer changes from Pre-paid to Collect.
  • Detailed Collect Manifest can now be viewed and printed (applicable to specific settings and workflows).
  • Detailed Third Party Billing Manifest now displays all third party shipments processed.
  • Third Party Billing default is changing to Prepaid when selecting an address from the Address Book.
  • Purolator services are now available for shipments pulled from the From Hold queue.

Backend application fixes

  • E-manifest file format has been updated to UTF-8 to match Purolator’s new standards.
  • ESS Manifest output file has now been fixed by removing the extra column that appeared in the file generated in CSV format.
  • ESS API multipiece shipment is not generating blank pieces as an error.
  • Manifests have been fixed so that special characters no longer appear on the printed documents.
  • Operands in Corporate DSN (e.g. <=, >=, =, <, >…) are now working properly and are no longer case sensitive.
  • The system has been fixed so that it can now handle very large groups (300+ entries) on multiple workstations.
  • The ESS Connect Manifest Output file now includes all reference numbers for consolidated shipments showing the specific reference number of each line item.
  • Connect Auto option is not sending an error shipment to hold anymore.
  • Connect Query Error is now included in output file when using ShipVia.
