TORONTO, Nov. 15, 2017 – Purolator expects to handle increased shipping volumes this holiday season and will move approximately one million packages on both of its busiest shipping dates: Cyber Monday and Dec. 4. The company’s second-busiest shipping date, Dec. 4, falls earlier than in past years and speaks to a growing consumer trend of online shopping.
Purolator’s 112 shipping centres will move close to 20 million packages, weighing about 120 million pounds, across Canada, into the United States and around the world this holiday season.
According to a recent survey conducted by Purolator and Leger, Canadian retailers began their preparations earlier this holiday season to keep up with rising demand and to ensure shipments arrive on time. Almost nine in 10 retailers (89 per cent) said e-commerce created new customer-buying patterns, resulting in early holiday planning.
Purolator anticipates it will move approximately 20 million packages this peak season and says it began planning earlier for the increased volume.
“We are ready to deliver on our customers’ holiday promises,” said Ramsey Mansour, Purolator’s Vice President of Corporate Strategy & Marketing. “We have been working directly with our customers to understand shipping forecasts that have allowed us to plan accordingly and make holiday shipments as seamless as possible.”
Purolator will keep pace with consumer demand this holiday season through its recruitment of approximately 900 seasonal employees and the addition of new vehicles to its fleet. The company will also pilot innovative customer service solutions such as a special-concept vehicle that will serve as a convenient pick-up location for customers.
