Purolator releases send-by dates for the 2015 holidays

Dec. 23 the latest date for next-day delivery within Canada; Dec. 22 for next-day delivery to the U.S.

TORONTO, Nov. 25, 2015 – Purolator, a leading Canadian freight, package and logistics solutions provider, today released its send-by dates for packages to arrive to domestic, U.S. and international destinations by Dec. 24, 2015.

“For any business, careful planning is key to ensuring shipments arrive to customers on time for the holidays,” said Paul Merrick, Vice President of Field Operations at Purolator. “Purolator’s send-by dates and shipping tips will help businesses prepare for the busy holiday season by ensuring items arrive on time, whether they are shipping to customers in Canada, south of the border or in other countries around the world.

Along with the send-by dates, Purolator has the following holiday shipping tips for businesses:

  1. Choose a reliable shipping provider that offers solutions that are customized to meet your specific needs, such as offering you options to ship or schedule a pickup online. Alternatively, drop off your shipments at one of the company’s locations or a drop box.
  2. Save time online, where shipments can be arranged in a few easy steps.
  3. Save money by opening an account with a rewards program that will put money back in your pocket.
  4. Consider having your shipments delivered to a convenient shipping location – giving you the flexibility for your shipments to be picked up or delivered.
  5. Select a shipper that publishes its holiday ship-by dates. You don’t want any surprises, and this information will go a long way toward ensuring you meet your deadlines.

Here are a few packaging tips:

  1. Always use new and durable shipping boxes. These can be purchased from Purolator Shipping Centres or office-supply stores.
  2. Place precious cargo in the centre of a box. Make sure all items fit well and are not protruding or compressed within the box.
  3. Wrap all items individually using appropriate packing materials, such as bubble wrap, foam peanuts or air pillows. These materials should be at least three inches thick. For items with sharp edges, or fragile items like electronics, add cardboard inserts to protect the edges. Do not use newspapers, twine or tissue paper for cushioning as they do not offer enough protection.
  4. Do not seal your boxes with glue, masking tape, cellophane tape or opaque tape. These materials lack strength to keep the package intact. Instead, use three-inch-wide plastic, pressure-sensitive tape to close all boxes, making sure all edge seams are taped.
  5. Be sure to stick the shipping label on the largest, flattest surface of the box. Then double-check the accuracy of the sender and receiver information on the shipping label. When necessary, affix information to indicate that a glass, liquid or heavy-weight object is enclosed.
  6. Retain a copy of your package identification number (PIN) for easy tracking.
