Purolator donates a delivery curbside vehicle
Toronto, Jan. 16, 2012 – As part of Purolator’s ongoing commitment to tackle hunger in the communities where its 11,500 teammates live, work and play, a donation of a delivery curbside truck was made today to the Eden Community Food Bank (ECFB).
Purolator takes an active role in working with community partners to support the people and places it serves. “As leaders in connecting Canadian businesses and people, we are committed to strengthening our communities” said Tom Schmitt, Purolator’s President and CEO.
Having delivered almost 350,000 pounds of food in 2011, the logistics of getting food to families in need is a constant challenge for the ECFB. During a recent visit to the Mississauga-based food bank, Purolator representatives witnessed first hand the day-to-day hurdles the ECFB team faces. Following the inspirational visit, Purolator made a commitment to donate a retired curbside truck and engaged their longstanding fleet partners to donate their services to ensure the truck was road-ready. The Four Way Auto Body and Turbo Images teams played a critical role in this much needed effort.
“Through the improved capacity and increased efficiency of our newly donated truck from Purolator, the food bank will be able to reach more hungry families and ensure that they receive the quality and quantity of food that is needed to provide nutritious meals” said Bill Crawford, Eden Community Food Bank Executive Director.
Since 2003, Purolator has been dedicated to helping alleviate hunger in the communities in which it operates. Through Purolator’s Tackle Hunger program, the equivalent of over 4.5 million pounds of food has been raised since the program’s inception.
