CFL fans end a giving season with a bang

Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Drives finish strong 

As the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) season begins to wrap up, so do the Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drives. With outstanding and even record-breaking numbers throughout the season’s Game Day events, Purolator and fans alike have proven that a little heart and generous spirits can go a long way.

Purolator Tackle Hunger – part of Atlantic Canada history
On Sept. 26, 2010, the Stade Moncton Stadium was the site for the first ever regular season CFL game played on a neutral site. Touchdown Atlantic, Atlantic Canada’s first CFL game, was part of a week-long celebration in Moncton, New Brunswick filled with events and festivals. And while the Toronto Argonauts got ready to face the Edmonton Eskimos in front of more than 20,000 fans, fans outside the stadium got their opportunity to have their pictures taken with the Grey Cup donating the equivalent of 17,500 pounds of food for Food DEPOT Alimentaire. That’s a wonderful goal for CFL fans in Atlantic Canada.

On the bright and sunny fall day of Oct. 17, 2010, the Montreal Alouettes were preparing to face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Meanwhile, outside Percival Molson stadium, excited fans arrived in droves to donate to Sun Youth’s food bank with a chance to take a picture with the Grey Cup and meet Canadian Football Hall of Famer, Peter Dalla Riva. Montreal fans raised the equivalent of 36,000 pounds of food, surpassing last year’s efforts by 48 per cent.

As a wrap-up to this year’s campaign, Purolator team members will be present at the Grey Cup parade on Nov. 27, 2010, collecting donations for Edmonton’s Food Bank.

Hunger affects almost 800,000 Canadians across the country, 37 per cent of whom are children. Since 2003, Purolator Tackle Hunger has helped deliver the equivalent of more than three million pounds of food for food banks across Canada, which is equivalent to more than 1,000 Purolator curbside trucks.
