CFL game day food drives kick off with a bang
For the eighth straight year, Purolator and the Canadian Football League (CFL) have teamed up to get all CFL fans onside with helping support local food banks across Canada.
Through the Purolator Tackle Hunger program fans have an opportunity to drop off non-perishable food items or give cash donations at various CFL games for the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Grey Cup. New this year, fans can text TACKLE to 30333 and make a one-time donation of $5, which will be added to people’s mobile phone bills with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to Food Banks Canada. In addition, every time a quarterback gets sacked, Purolator donates the equivalent of the quarterback’s weight in food to a CFL hometown food bank.
Bombers record-setting kick-off
On July 9, Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans generously donated in record amounts to a grand total of the equivalent of 49,526 pounds of food. That’s a 22 per cent increase over last year’s results setting a new record for the Winnipeg region. All proceeds go to support Winnipeg Harvest and the community it services.
Regina rides in style surpassing last year’s results
On July 17, the Mosaic Stadium set the stage for Saskatchewan Roughriders fans to open their hearts and their hands in support of Regina Food Bank. Together they generated the equivalent of 69,400 pounds of food all going to support the more than 10,000 people that rely on the Regina Food Bank monthly. That’s a 5,000 pound increase from last year’s total.
