Purolator Tackle Hunger raises more than 11,883 pounds of food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and Surrey Food Bank

Vancouver, Oct. 3, 2015 As part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger® (PTH) program, Purolator employees, BC Lions fans and local food bank volunteers teamed up in Vancouver today to raise the equivalent of 11,883  pounds of food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and Surrey Food Bank.

“Thanks to the outstanding and inspiring support of BC Lions fans, this year’s Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drive raised more than 11,883 pounds of food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and Surrey Food Bank,” said Patrick Nangle, President and CEO, Purolator. “The food and funds raised will go a long way in feeding those affected by hunger in Vancouver and surrounding areas.

Now in its 13th season, the PTH program raises awareness, food and funds for local food banks across Canada. At one game in every Canadian Football League (CFL) city, Purolator organizes a Game Day Food Drive and encourages fans to drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation in support of food banks in their communities.

Last year, PTH raised the equivalent of 1.3 million pounds of food. This year, the program has set a goal to help raise more than 1.4 million pounds of food for Canadian food banks.

Hunger is an important issue that affects Canadians across the country. According to Food Bank Canada’s 2014 HungerCount report, more than 840,000 Canadians – 36 per cent of them children – visit food banks every month.

About the Surrey Food Bank

The Surrey Food Bank (SFB) is a non-profit organization with a vision of growing our community beyond hunger. Since 1983, SFB has been assisting low income families and individuals by primarily providing bi-weekly food hampers to supplement a client’s food needs. SFB helps feed 14,000 people per month in the communities of Surrey and North Delta with over 200 babies visiting each week.
