CBRM residents encouraged to donate food and funds in support of local food banks
SYDNEY, May 20, 2015 – Purolator is pleased to announce that the mayor and council of Cape Breton Regional Municipality have proclaimed June 1-5 Purolator Tackle Hunger® Week in the region, encouraging CBRM residents to donate food and funds to local food banks to assist the less fortunate in the community. PTH Week is an annual national fundraising effort launched by Purolator to challenge its employees, agents, partners, customers and all Canadians to raise food and monetary donations for local food banks.
“We are pleased to support the efforts of the Purolator Tackle Hunger program,” said Mayor Cecil P. Clarke. “Initiatives like this have a positive impact on the well-being of individuals in our community. Thank you to Purolator for bringing citizens together to support each other in a meaningful way.”
Since the inception of PTH Week in 2006, Purolator has helped raise more than 35,000 pounds of food for local food banks in the CBRM and surrounding areas. Purolator donates the food raised during PTH Week to organizations such as Every Woman’s Centre, Glace Bay Food Bank Society, Loaves & Fishes, Native Council of Nova Scotia, St. Theresa’s Clothing & Food Bank, Sydney Mines Food Bank Society and the Whitney Pier Youth Club.
“We are thrilled with the support of the CBRM and thank the mayor and council for their proclamation of PTH Week,” said Tom McMenamon, Director of Atlantic Operations, Purolator. “Our employees take great pride in the contribution we make through the PTH program, and together with the municipality, we can increase our collection, allowing us to deliver more to local organizations each year.”
