Purolator President and CEO to participate in Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition to help homeless youth in Toronto

Nov. 17, 2014, TORONTO – Patrick Nangle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Purolator, will once again join an expected 80 of Toronto’s business and community leaders as they spend the night of Nov. 20 sleeping on Toronto’s streets for the third annual Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition to help homeless youth in Toronto.

“During last year’s Sleep Out, I had the opportunity to meet many inspiring individuals from Covenant House and hear from the homeless youth it helps every day,” said Nangle. “I am thrilled to participate in the Sleep Out again this year and help Covenant House Toronto reach its goal of raising more than $810,000 in one night to help our youth get off the street and on the road to a brighter future. I encourage my fellow Torontonians to join me in helping those young people in need and support the efforts of Covenant House, particularly heading into the holiday season.”

The Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition is led by honorary co-chairs Tim Leiweke, President and Chief Executive Officer, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, and Belinda Stronach, President and Co-Chairman of the Stronach Group and founder of the Belinda Stronach Foundation. For one night, participants sleep on a sidewalk in downtown Toronto – with only a sleeping bag and a piece of cardboard – to help raise awareness and funds for Covenant House Toronto. Last year, the Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition raised $783,000, bringing the total amount raised since the event started in 2012 to more than $1.3 million.

As Canada’s largest homeless youth agency, Covenant House Toronto provides crisis programs and services to approximately 3,000 youth every year. Its services include providing education and job training to youth who are getting back on the road to independence, as well as shelter, food and clothing to youth who need help to meet their most basic needs.

Purolator has been a long-time supporter of helping alleviate hunger in the communities where it operates. Since its inception in 2003, the Purolator Tackle Hunger® (PTH) program has helped deliver the equivalent of more than 6.5 million pounds of food to food banks across Canada, of which, the equivalent of more than 500,000 pounds has gone to Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank, which provides Covenant House Toronto with food for its programs.
