Filling out a Purolator Bill of Lading

Each package or piece must display a Purolator Courier, or Purolator approved, Bar Coded P.I.N. (Parcel Identification Number) and a properly secured and completed address label, as follows:

  1. The address label(s) displays the Shipper's and Receiver's full address including postal code, and telephone number including area code.

In addition to the above information, the Bill of Lading must contain:

    • Customer account number or credit card number
    • Service option selected
    • Billing instructions
    • Number of pieces
    • Weight of shipment
    • Declared value (optional)
    • Date and signature.

Note: Rural route numbers (RR#) are acceptable in the Purolator Courier System providing the receiver's full telephone number is clearly marked on all pieces of the shipment and on the shipping document (Bill of Lading). Packages addressed to Post Office (PO) boxes will not be accepted unless such packages show a complete delivery address and telephone number.

  2. The address label must be securely fastened to the top of each parcel or piece. String or wire tags are not acceptable as they are prone to being pulled off. Improper labeling may result in the shipment being subsequently delayed or lost. It is strongly recommended that a duplicate label be attached to an inner flap of each package.

  3. All previous delivery address labels and markings must be covered or removed.

  4. A shipment consisting of more than one piece must have each piece individually numbered. If a shipment consists of three pieces, for example, each piece would be marked as being 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3. This numbering of pieces is in addition to the requirement that each piece of the shipment displays a unique Purolator Courier Bar Coded PIN and a full shipping and delivery address.

Note: For U.S. and International shipments that consist of more than one piece, the main Bill of Lading number must be clearly written on each additional piece (because shipments are tracked by a single PIN only once outside of Canada).

  5. Orientation UP arrows must be located on either both sides or ends of each carton containing liquid or fragile items.

  6. Liquid packs must be labeled "SPILLABLE".

Effective immediately, Purolator will eliminate the use of driver labels because they do not allow for proper tracking of all pieces in a shipment. Instead we are providing customers with the easy to use regular bills of lading (for shipments up to 4 pieces) and the multiple piece manifests (for shipments with 5-10 pieces) to allow better track, trace and shipment consolidation capabilities.
