Purolator and the CFL reach the 1,000,000 pound mark

Purolator and CFL fans reach a milestone for food bank donations

Purolator, the official courier of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the CFL announced today that the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has raised over 1,000,000 pounds of food for food banks across Canada since the program’s inception in 2003.

Already in its fourth season, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program visits each CFL community once a year, offering fans the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Grey Cup trophy in exchange for a non-perishable food item or cash donation. In addition, every time a quarterback gets sacked during the regular season, Purolator donates his weight in food to the local food bank where the game is being played. Thanks in large part to record-breaking contributions from CFL fans in Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Hamilton, Vancouver, Regina and Toronto, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has achieved its goal of reaching the 1,000,000 pound mark in 2006.

“This achievement is a great example of the level of commitment and dedication CFL teams, Purolator employees, customers and fans have to alleviating hunger in Canada,” said Brian Meagher, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at Purolator. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the CFL and providing food banks across Canada with the food they so desperately need.”

During the Grey Cup Commissioner’s Luncheon this past fall, the CFL and Purolator announced an extension of their partnership through the 2008 season. Under the terms of that new agreement, Purolator continues to be the presenting sponsor of the Commissioner’s Luncheon, as well as the title sponsor of the CFL’s Live Play-by-Play feature on www.cfl.ca. Purolator’s Sack Tally, an integral part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger initiative will also continue through the 2008 season.

“We are excited about continuing to work with Purolator and reaching even more important milestones,” stated CFL Commissioner Tom Wright. “This program clearly demonstrates how the CFL and Purolator are helping to alleviate hunger in Canada.”

The 2006 Purolator Tackle Hunger program will be visiting Montreal for the first time ever on October 21. The Purolator Tackle Hunger program will also be on-site in Winnipeg for this season’s Grey Cup finale.
