thINK FOOD/Phones-For-Food program honoured with two awards

A national printer cartridge and cell phone recycling collection program sponsored by Purolator has been honoured with the inaugural Green Toronto Environmental Award of Excellence and the Canadian Geographic Canadian Environment Award.

The thINK FOOD program received top honours in the category of Community Project at the Green Toronto Awards celebrating leading companies, organizations and individuals who have contributed to the greening of Toronto – the community in which the thINK FOOD project originated.

The Canadian Environment Awards recognize individuals and groups across the country that are working to protect, conserve and restore our environment. The thINK FOOD program received a Silver Award in the category of Sustainable Living.

As the national shipping sponsor of the thINK FOOD/Phones-For-Food program, Purolator picks up, delivers and returns thINK FOOD recycling bins.

"As the national shipping sponsor of the thINK FOOD/Phones-for-Food project, Purolator is thrilled about the recognition it has received and the difference it is making in our communities," said Bob Johnson, Purolator's President and C.E.O. "The awards will help generate further awareness of hunger as a fundamental and pressing concern that affects all the communities where we live and work."

Through more than 5,000 registered collection sites, the program has raised the equivalent of approximately 150,000 kg of food for community food banks and collected over 300,000 cartridges and cell phones. Supporters include schools, large corporations, government offices and individuals.
