Purolator and CFL set to hit record highs

Fans continue to team up with Purolator to tackle hunger

Purolator (the official courier of the CFL) and The Canadian Football League (CFL) , announced today that the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has raised over 130,000 pounds of food at the mid-point of this season, well ahead of last season’s record-breaking year. Donations to date have exceeded 830,000 pounds to food banks across Canada since the program’s inception in 2003.

Well into its fourth season, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program visits each CFL community once a year, offering fans the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Grey Cup trophy in exchange for a non-perishable food item or cash donation. In addition, every time a quarterback gets sacked in regular season, Purolator donates the quarterback’s weight in food to the local food bank where the game is being played. With the goal of reaching the million-pound mark by the end of this season, Purolator has received great record-breaking contributions from CFL fans in Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Hamilton and Vancouver.

“Our partnership with Purolator over the years has powerfully demonstrated the ability of two organizations to deliver a program that benefits many,” said CFL Commissioner Tom Wright. ”We look forward in continuing our partnership with a leading Canadian brand like Purolator for the next three years.”

During the Grey Cup Commissioner’s Luncheon this past winter, Purolator and the CFL announced an extension of their partnership through the 2008 season. Under the terms of that new agreement, Purolator continues to be the presenting sponsor of the Commissioner’s Luncheon, as well as the title sponsor of the CFL’s Live Play-by-Play feature on www.cfl.ca. Purolator’s Sack Tally, an integral part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger initiative will also continue through the 2008 season.

“Purolator is extremely pleased to partner with the CFL and the Canadian Association of Food Banks to once again help tackle hunger in Canada,” stated Brian Meagher, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at Purolator. “The tremendous success of the program is a direct result of the commitment of the CFL teams, our employees, customers and fans across Canada.”

The remaining dates for the 2006 Purolator Tackle Hunger program are Sunday, September 24 in Regina, Thanksgiving Day on Monday, October 9, in Toronto and visiting Montreal for the first time ever on October 21.
