Purolator Tackle Hunger July Game Day Food Drives raise more than 465,000 pounds of food for local food banks

Toronto, Aug. 4, 2015 – Purolator has raised the equivalent of 468,100 pounds of food for local food banks in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Edmonton as part of its Purolator Tackle Hunger® Game Day Food Drives during the month of July.

“Thank you to the Bombers, REDBLACKS and Eskimos fans for kicking off our 2015 series of Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drives with such incredible donations,” said Patrick Nangle, President and CEO, Purolator. “The kindness of CFL fans year after year is what powers our Game Day Food Drives and has made them an indispensable donation vehicle for local food banks during their slowest time of the year.”

Purolator kicked off its annual series of Game Day Food Drives in Winnipeg on July 10, where Bombers fans raised 297,200 pounds for Winnipeg Harvest.

“A huge thank you to Purolator, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and their fans for their generosity,” said David Northcott, executive director, Winnipeg Harvest. “The donations raised through the Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drive come at a much needed time as our food donations are at their lowest over the summer months. Purolator’s commitment to helping feed hungry families is a victory for our clients.”

Ottawa REDBLACKS fans went on to raise 35,800 for the Ottawa Food Bank on July 17, while Edmonton Eskimos fans donated 130,000 pounds of food to Edmonton’s Food Bank on July 31.

“A huge thank you to Purolator, the Ottawa Redblacks and Ottawa Fury and their fans for their generosity,” said Michael Maidment, Executive Director, Ottawa Food Bank. “The donations raised through the Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drive couldn’t come at a better time as our food donations are at their lowest over the summer months.”

“When you hear a child in our reception area exclaim, ‘Look Daddy, we’re rich!’ and he is referring to food that we are giving his family, you know you are doing right,” said Marjorie Bencz, CM, Executive Director, Edmonton’s Food Bank. “We are so fortunate to have Purolator and the Edmonton Eskimos support our work. Dollar-by-dollar and can-by-can we continue to work towards a common goal – tackling hunger!”

So far this year, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has raised the equivalent of more than 800,000 pounds of food for food banks across Canada. The 2015 Purolator Tackle Hunger goal is to raise the equivalent of 1.4 million pounds of food.
