TORONTO, Dec. 6, 2011 - Purolator and the Canadian Football League will be tackling hunger together for another three years.
The league and its official courier proudly announced today a three-year extension of their partnership and the very successful Purolator Tackle Hunger program, which has delivered 4.5 million
pounds of food to Canadian food banks since 2003.

At one game in every CFL city each season, fans drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation to Purolator employees and food bank volunteers, and receive an opportunity to have their photo taken with the Grey Cup. And every time a quarterback is sacked in a CFL regular season game, Purolator donates the equivalent of the quarterback's weight in food to the local food bank.
As well, fans can donate by mobile phone, and Purolator employees and customers hold their own food drives.
The Purolator Tackle Hunger program delivered over 800,000 pounds of food in 2011. That's a 15 per cent increase from last year, and brings the all-time total for the program to 4.5 million pounds.
More than 850,000 Canadians visit food banks every month, and four out of every ten food bank users are children and youth under the age of 18.
"Food banks tell us that in these uncertain economic times, more than 93,000 Canadians turned to them for help for the first time this year," said Chris Schultz, a member of the CFL on TSN panel, and the official spokesman for Purolator Tackle Hunger.
"So this announcement is timely and very welcome. It makes me enormously proud to be associated with a great league and a leading company that will continue to work together to make such a positive difference for Canadian families."
